Coronavirus has locked down millions of people as authorities work to slow the spread of the deadly disease.
This means people in quarantine have a lot of time on their hands, and many people are sharing daily updates through social media – giving an insight into life inside these red zones.
This week the Italian government announced it was forcing some 6 million residents into quarantine but people in the epicentre in Wuhan, in the Hubei providence of China have already been isolated for weeks.
TikTok user Megan Monroe, an American English teacher living in Wuhan is one of those people and has been posting videos daily – giving unprecedented access into a city that’s been locked down for more than 40 days.
Videos explain that groceries are being delivered every four days, pharmacists also deliver medication, however trips out into the general community are discouraged.
Some clips show food being cooked, and others are Megan speaking to the camera and giving an update on any news they’ve heard or messages from family.
Another user, Mackenzie Britt, explains that she was quarantined for 14 days after travelling to Rome.
She shared videos from an apartment in Paris of her taking her temperature, eating meals, and watching a lot of programs on her a laptop.
She and her roommate also perform dance routines and gaze out the window into a world they are barred from entering for two weeks.
Other videos from various regions in Asia and Europe show bored teenagers performing dance routines which mimic hand-washing, while one man even changed his settings on the dating app Tinder to speak to people in Wuhan about their experiences.
He found that while many people were anxious about the situation, others were taking the time to relax and catch up on Netflix.
